Eating the Frog in Spiritual Living

Have you ever heard the saying, “Eat the frog?”

This phrase comes from the motivational space and is a productivity tool for overcoming procrastination. The theory is that if you have one job, and that job is to eat a frog, even though you don’t want to do it, getting it out of the way first thing in the morning is arguably better than having it loom over your head all day long and still have to do it before bed.

Okay, but Geneva, what does this have to do with spirituality?

Well, since the spiritual realm is simply a reflection of this physical world (as above so below) you could venture a guess that just about everything between these realms has a parallel. And when it comes to spiritual growth, what you’re resisting is exactly what you need.

In my journey, the thing I struggle with more than ANYTHING is settling in for meditation. I have four kids, a to-do list longer than my snake (that reminds me, I need to clean her cage), and a pretty generous helping of ADHD. Yet, there is rarely a better tool for growing into my next evolution of self. Even still, when I want to access the answer to a question I’m having or find a moment of connection, I’m apt to turn just about anywhere else before the discomfort grows large enough to plant me in my seat.

I’m learning though, which brings me back to the frog.

I have recently established a more regular routine of meditation and journaling. And the more I can convince myself to “just get it over with,” the greater the rewards that come through.

In fact, I’m even finding that I can take a moment to meditate in more unusual places. In the shower. Right after filling the dishwasher. The five minutes before opening my laptop. I have made it a much bigger priority. And I understand that if I don’t eat the frog every day, my spiritual life will ultimately stagnate until I sit down and eat the damn frog again.

Sometimes this journey is hard, and a failure to prioritize your spiritual health is a trap that we all fall into. After all, it’s so much easier to coast by with the realizations we’ve already had plus a dose of psychic giftedness. But really, it’s deeply worth it to give your all.

So, why don’t you give it a try? Join me in my new commitment and together we can both just eat the damn frog. Drop me a line at geneva@wearethegalaxy.com if you’re on board, and I’ll send you a free goodie in exchange.

I love you. Xoxo. -G
