Healing the Kidneys
by David DeHaas
About 20 years ago, standalone kidney dialysis centers were rare. Now, they’re ubiquitous. Here’s why kidney disease is on the rise and what you can do to prevent or potentially reverse it.
The Role of the Kidneys
The kidneys filter the blood, regulate blood pressure, and balance water, sodium, potassium, glucose, bicarbonate, amino acids, creatinine, and urea. They remove excess water from the blood and return it as needed to maintain homeostasis.
Kidney Disease and Its Causes
Conditions like rheumatoid arthritis can be linked to kidney dysfunction, as chronic inflammation may stress the kidneys. Here are some contributing factors to kidney disease:
• Gluten and Agricultural Chemicals: Since the 1950s, hybridized wheat has increased crop yields, but it’s often sprayed with pesticides like glyphosate and atrazine. These chemicals are associated with health risks, including potential kidney damage. Avoid consuming foods treated with these substances.
• Toxins and Heavy Metals: Think of your body as a network of rivers. The cardiovascular system delivers blood to the kidneys, but chemicals and heavy metals in food and water can congest this system, leading to high blood sugar, elevated blood pressure, and kidney strain.
• Emotional Stress: Emotions like fear or anger can contribute to physical tension and inflammation, potentially exacerbating kidney issues, including the formation of kidney stones.
Steps to Support Kidney Health
You can take proactive steps to protect and potentially heal your kidneys:
1. Eat Organic Foods: Avoid chemical-laden foods to reduce toxin exposure.
2. Drink Pure Water: Use filtered water served in glass containers to avoid plastic-related contaminants.
3. Incorporate Lemon Juice and Ginger: These can support detoxification and reduce inflammation.
4. Use Apple Cider Vinegar: A tablespoon daily may aid digestion and detoxification.
5. Consider Colon Hydrotherapy: Colonics can hydrate the gut and remove old fecal matter, which may reduce the toxic load on the kidneys and liver. Accumulated waste in the gut can seep into the bloodstream and lymphatic system, potentially contributing to kidney stones over time.
A Real-Life Example
I recently worked with a man whose kidney function was at just 19%, landing him on the kidney transplant list. After incorporating colon hydrotherapy, his kidney function improved to 35%. His doctor suggested a drug that would lower his kidney function to secure his spot on the transplant list. He questioned, “Why would I do that?” and continued with colonics. Today, he’s feeling better and improving daily.
