WHAT IS HYPNOSIS? Hypnosis is simply a way to deeply relax your body and your conscious mind, which in turn allows your subconscious to be more open and accessible. In this state, your subconscious will accept positive suggestions and imagery, such as for the relief of health problems and the reversal of symptoms.
You have probably heard the term “mind-body connection.” The mind-body connection is the idea that a person’s thoughts and feelings can affect their physical health, and vice versa. It’s a complex relationship that’s been studied by scientists, philosophers, healthcare professionals and even spiritual healers for centuries.
One example of the mind-body connection is the placebo effect. That happens when a patient is given a neutral substance or treatment, but they believe that it will reduce their symptoms and help the healing process. Amazingly, it usually does. Because “where the mind goes, the body follows.”
And so the mind can actually be a powerful healing tool.
In my hypnotherapy practice, I often help address my clients’ health problems with a healing guided imagery. I tailor that imagery to the client’s preference, but I often use the image of a powerful healing light surrounding and protecting them.
Gradually and gently, the light enters their body and begins its powerful healing work wherever it is needed. For instance, the light might target painful areas and reduce the physical cause of that pain, such as inflammation, injury, etc.
Likewise, the light may target internal structures such as organs, bones, ligaments, etc., and stimulate the body’s healing energy in those areas.
Let’s say an area has a tear or a break. The light may help the cells in that area to knit together, heal, and become stronger than ever.
Or perhaps it’s something like chronic stomach upsets, inflammatory bowel, etc. Again, whatever imagery reverses the symptoms is used, such as a calming light or color or energy that settles and relaxes the area.
I even helped a client stop chronic hiccoughs that had gone on for several days, by relaxing the spasming diaphragm!
If appropriate, we might ask the area that needs healing what message it has for them. Sometimes those messages can be quite enlightening and informative!
I might even have the client remember a time before the health problem, inhabit that state of wellness, and then project it into the future. Remember, where the mind goes, the body follows—which is the essence of the mind-body connection.
So, allow me to help you empower yourself to make the health changes you desire in your life!
