Summer Health Prevention Stops Winter Illness
by Charles Lightwalker
In non-traditional medicine modalities, treating health problems in the summer boosts immunity and prevents worsening in the winter when they become more serious or harder to deal with.
Many non-traditional medicine practices teach that Yin energy (water, female) is stronger than Yang energy (fire, male) in the winter. Humans are part of the natural world and are influenced by the Yin/Yang balance, which may make cough, asthma, IBS, pains, numbness/coldness in limbs, sinus issues, or poor blood circulation (for better circulation use a BEMER), etc. recur or worsen in the winter. Yang energy is higher in the summer, so it is a good time to use natural Yang energy to nourish the body. Yang energy, disperses the cold evils inside of the body, and strengthens the blood circulation. However, cold drinks and an air-conditioned environment can add more cold evil into the body. The cold evil can cause stagnation of the blood, pains, form cysts, tumors, or weaken organs. So use non-traditional medicine modalities, such as acupressure, acupuncture, chiropractic, homeopathy, lymphatic massage, naturopathic treatments, tuning fork healing or yogic therapy to remove the cold evil from the body in the summer to avoid creating illness later in winter.
Summer is a good time to recover from surgery and other ailments, such as: the side effects of cancer treatments, low immunity, anemia, low energy, cysts, tumors, yeast infections, weak kidneys, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, lung illness, low back pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and osteoporosis. Summer is a good time to strengthen the body to reduce sickness in the winter.
Use the longer, warmer days to get in the sun, avoid cold foods or drinks that can deplete the organs energy. Limit hot spices in order to save Yin energy and to balance Yin and Yang. Decrease high fat, fried foods and sugar to lower inflammation of the organs and tissues. Avoid strenuous exercises which burn Yin energy and cause the imbalance of Yin and Yang. Take naps, meditate or do breathing exercises during the heat of the day. Hormone levels are lower for adults in mid-life. Both Yin and Yang also decrease in mid-life. It is more common for this age group to begin to experience degenerative problems, such as bone spurs, disc degeneration, damaged joints, narrowing space between the vertebrates, poor blood circulation, low energy, thinner hair, weight gain, insomnia, wrinkles and more.
Getting regular acupuncture, chiropractic, and other alternative medicine treatments helps the organs to produce hormones to retard the aging process. Native American/Shamanic traditions teach that the mind, the body, the spirit, the sky, humans and the earth are one. Take good care of the whole body in the summer to prevent illness and stay strong in the winter.
